Cherisse Carlin is a graduate student of the 7th cohort in the Language, Literacy and Culture PhD program at the University or Maryland Baltimore County, Baltimore, MD, USA. E-mail:cherc@umbc.edu. Her areas of research interest include relationships between language and culture, preservation of culture, and cross cultural communication. Currently, she is focusing on different meaning of social inequalities in Trinidad as compared to its interpretation in the United States. She is also the associate director of Financial Aid at Howard Community College, a diverse campus community in Columbia, Maryland.
